The poker roundup for this week focuses on some news from various brands ranging from PokerStars to the World Series Of Poker. We'll start off with PokerStars, which has announced a new feature that will hit a sentimental note with many players.
PokerStars Announces Winning Moments Feature
PokerStars has announced that they're going to have a new feature called Winning Moments, which allows its players to remember some good things that have happened while playing. For example, you win a big tournament or even just a big hand, you can relive the moment with your friends. This is being released just in time for the World Championship of Online Poker, which should definitely have a moment or two that is worth sharing. The WCOOP kicks off on September 3 and goes until September 26, and Winning Moments will be available to winners and those who get to the final table of No Limit Hold'em events.
Players can also get commentary from PokerStars from James Hartigan and Joe Stapleton, which is a cool feature. Customized videos will be sent out for some moments that happen throughout the event. Eventually, the feature will also be available to those that can cash in 100X the buy-in amount.
Meacham Breaks Through on WSOP Circuit in Foxwoods
Jeremy Meacham has been going to the World Series Of Poker Circuit in Foxwoods, Mashantucket, Connecticut, for three years now. He has made the final table in all three years, finishing sixth in 2015 and third in 2016. However, he finally broke through in 2017 to win the event, beating out 485 players for the win in this $1,500 + 175 No Limit Hold'em tournament.
Meacham won the gold ring, which is awarded for winning these events, and he also took home $156,735 for his efforts. Meacham defeated Sean Thomson in heads-up play to get the win, but don't feel too bad for Thomson as he still took home a solid $96,957. In third place was Bob Ricciuti with $70,713, then Michael Azzaro in fourth with $52,488 and Galen Hall rounded out the top five with $39,366.
Meacham was the main man of the day, earning his first win since March when he collected $117,551 for winning a $1,500 No Limit Hold'em event in Jacksonville on the World Poker Tour. However, this win here was Meacham's best live-cash victory to date.
WSOPC Pairs with Seminole Hard Rock for Event
Speaking of the World Series Of Poker Circuit, they've announced that they'll be pairing with the Seminole Hard Rock and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, for an event. So far what we know is that it will take place from September 21 to October 2, and there will actually be a total of 14 WSOPC ring tournaments going on during that time. There are events with buy-ins ranging from $580 to $3,250. The full list of tournaments can be found online.
It is a small surprise that this is the first time these two entities have paired up. The Seminole has hosted many major poker events on all sorts of tours. It even has its own Player Of The Year competition, which these tournaments will count towards.
Table Of Contents
While PokerNews is only live reporting the High Roller and Main Event tournaments this weekend at the World Series of Poker Circuit Foxwoods stop, there have been plenty of other side events playing out all week long.
One of them was Event #3: $600 No-Limit Hold'em, a tournament that drew 1,754 entries over five starting flights and created a $903,310 prize pool.
'I’m still grinding it out. I’m always fighting for my life – I’m fighting for my family.'
Among those to finish in the top 264 and make the money were Mike Wang (14th - $9,846), Andrew Cooper (28th - $3,974), Benjamin Sears (37th - $2,529), Stephen Silverman (59th - $1,896), Daniel Weinman (80th - $1,535), Mike Azzaro (106th - $1,174), and Dan Barry (121st - $1,174).
In the end, local favorite Bob Ricciuti from Johnston, Rhode Island took it down in front of his big rail for $134,413 and his first gold ring.
“I have a reputation for being bitter because I’ve been around a long time and I’ve never gotten a big payday. People that know me know the real me. They’ll see you when you’re busting a tournament, and the whole world is looking at you at your weakest moment. So, it feels like vindication. It feels really nice,” said an emotional Ricciuti.
He added: “For the first couple of years I was playing professionally we were struggling. My daughter was young. But here I am 13 years later and I’m still grinding it out. I’m always fighting for my life – I’m fighting for my family.”
